WATER DONKEY kitesurfing station in VIGANJ on the Pelješac peninsula is one of the windiest and most popular kitesurfing spots in Croatia.
WIND CLIMATE
You will find the best wind conditions from June to end of August. (Maestral from the northwest). But also May and September (Bora from the northeast and the Jugo from the south) should not be neglected. The wind is caused by the temperature differences between land and water. You need a stable high pressure area over Croatia and the thermal builds up reliably. In the months of May, June and July the wind usually starts at noon and then blows through until evening. Here the average wind force reaches approx. 4-5 Bft. In August, due to the higher temperatures, the thermal starts a little later. Then the wind only comes from around 2 p.m. Here, too, the wind still reaches approx. 4-5 Bft. From September the wind starts a little later and often only comes from around 3pm to 4pm. Even in these months you can still go surfing for 2 to 3 hours a day, but with larger sails and kites, as the wind hardly gets stronger than a good 4 Bft. The good and very even wind (Maestral) always comes sideshore from the right. Depending on the weather, it blows side-offshore or side-onshore. In the side-onshore wind direction, the wind may be slightly weaker for the first few meters then outside. In the morning there is usually only a light wind, which is perfect for beginners or some light training.

The highest mountain, Sveti Ilija, is almost 961 meters high and can be reached on foot in 2.5 hours. An extraordinarily beautiful all-round view of the island awaits you at the summit.

The beginner kitesurfing course is designed for people that have had zero or very little experience with kitesurfing.
The course takes 4-5 days (12 hours total). Lessons are run with radio helmets so all you need to do is practice and listen to your experienced instructor guiding you. The course is done via a speedboat which constantly follows our students during the course. Because our teaching system is very safe and suitable for children from 35kg up.

Advanced kitesurfing course is designed for anyone that has some previous kitesurfing experience or has done a kitesurfing course in the past. Lessons are run with radio helmets so all you need to do is practice and listen to your experienced instructor guiding you. The course is done via a speedboat which constantly follows our students during the course.
You will learn how to ride independently and learn a few tricks like the first jump! Your IKO Instructor will show you how to ride upwind, turn, toe-side, attempt your first jump, and help you focus on advanced skills like controlling your speed by edging, changing direction without stopping, self-launching, and self-landing safely.
As an independent rider, you’ll be able to ride on your own and rent equipment wherever you go.
Because our teaching system is very safe and suitable for children from 35kg up.

What is Kiteboarding? How to learn?
Kiteboarding is a wind-powered sport where you are pulled along the water by a kite on a board similar to a wakeboard. You experience one of your most incredible adrenaline rushes and unforgettable memories.
Intro to IKO Kiteboarding lessons
FIRST LESSON (ON LAND)
In the first lesson you learn about, wind effects, wind windows, equipment, and location selection criteria. By the end of the lesson, students will understand and demonstrate the proper way to handle and fly a trainer kite.

SECOND LESSON (ON WATER)
The next step picks up where the first lesson finished and gets you straight in the water. It starts with downwind body dragging(incredible fun) , and upwind body dragging (this is to teach you how to retrieve the board after a crash without a board leash). You learn how to body drag with one hand at this point, you release the bar in the water then retrieve the bar and re-launch the kite from the water.

WATER START
In this lesson you learn how to put the board on your feet, position yourself correctly and make the first power stroke which will get you standing on your board for the first time. At the end of your lesson, you will learn how to correctly edge the board and how to ride upwind. You also recover the board and learn how to self-rescue.
